Alicia’s Artistic Journey
From wartime struggles to artistic triumphs, Alicia J. Stonebreaker’s journey unfolds through passion, resilience, and an enduring legacy of fine art.
A Passion Begins
Born in Wieluń, Poland, Alicia’s love for art began as a child. She carried her sketchpad everywhere, capturing everyday moments and developing the artistic talent that would later define her career. Even in her earliest years, her passion for painting and drawing was undeniable.
1925War and Survival
As WWII began, Alicia’s family fled but returned to find their homes occupied. Forced into labor camps, she endured hardship yet found a way to survive through her artistic skills. Her ability to create maps for the Germans saved her life, demonstrating her resilience and determination.
1939A New Beginning
Alicia met and married an American Air Force Sergeant, William Clifton Stonebreaker, and moved to the U.S. Balancing family life with her love for art, she adapted to a new culture. Despite the challenges, her artistic spirit never faded, waiting for the right moment to flourish.
1951Art as a Career
After her divorce, Alicia turned to art to support her three sons. She painted commissioned portraits, created signage, and won local contests. With relentless energy, she built a name for herself, proving that talent, perseverance, and hard work could overcome even the toughest obstacles.
1961Artistic Recognition
Alicia’s reputation soared as she won prestigious awards, exhibited at renowned galleries, and gained widespread recognition. Her ability to capture emotion and movement in watercolors and oils made her a sought-after artist. She continued teaching, inspiring students to embrace fine art.
1973A Lasting Legacy
In her final years, Alicia continued to paint, teach, and travel. Her legacy lives on through her breathtaking artwork, now preserved in collections and Giclée prints. Her story remains an inspiration—a testament to the power of resilience, talent, and an unwavering love for art.
